Resize Image
Resize a JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC photo by pixels, percent, centimeters or its long edge, or pick a ready-made size for Etsy, YouTube, eBay or LinkedIn, then download it. Resize one image, or up to 50 at once and get them back as a ZIP. It’s free, there’s nothing to sign up for, and the images are resized in your browser: they never leave your device.
- Free
- Runs in your browser, nothing uploaded
- No sign-up
- No ads
Your image stays on your device: it is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to resize an image in 3 steps
- 1
Open your image
Drop it on the editor, click to choose a file, or paste it with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac). JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (first frame), BMP and iPhone HEIC photos open in any browser. Drop several files to resize up to 50 at once.
- 2
Set the new size
Type a Width or Height in px, % or cm with the aspect ratio locked, click a Long edge (px) size such as 1920 or 1080, or choose a platform under Platform sizes and pick Fit, add margins or Fill, crop the edges.
- 3
Check it and download
The new pixel size and file size show under the preview. Hold to see the original to compare, then press Download or Copy.
What the image resizer does
Updated 2026-11-03
- Ways to set the size
- Width × height in px, % or cm, with the aspect ratio locked or free. One-click long edges: 4096, 2048, 1920, 1600, 1280, 1080 and 800 px. Platform presets from the dated table on this page.
- Resizing filter
- A high-quality Lanczos-type filter. Making an image bigger works, but the editor warns you that it adds no detail: there is no AI upscaling.
- DPI for printing
- 72, 96, 150, 300 or 350 DPI, written into JPG and PNG files. It changes no pixels; it tells print software how large to print. Sizes in cm use this setting (300 DPI by default).
- Several images
- Up to 50 at once, with one setting for all: long edge, width, percent or a platform preset with Fit or Fill. Long edge and width never enlarge an image that is already smaller. Download each one, or all as one ZIP.
- Formats
- Opens JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (first frame), BMP and HEIC in any browser (outside Safari, HEIC goes through an open-source decoder that also runs in your browser). Saves JPG, PNG or WebP, in your file’s own format unless you pick another under Convert.
- Largest image
- About 16.7 megapixels on iPhone and iPad (Safari) and 50 megapixels on other devices. A bigger image is opened at a smaller size, and the editor tells you so.
- Camera and location data
- The saved file is re-encoded, so camera data and GPS location (EXIF) are removed. The result says so. Photos are shown upright, following the camera’s rotation flag.
- Undo and history
- Every change is a step in the History list. Undo with Ctrl+Z (⌘+Z), redo with Ctrl+Shift+Z, or click any step. Each step is redrawn from the original, so going back and forth never lowers quality.
- Nothing is uploaded: how to check
- Open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab and resize an image: no upload request is sent. The site still counts page views; those never include your image.

Resize by pixels, percent, cm or long edge
This image resizer gives you four ways to set the size, and they all lead to the same result: a new width and height in pixels.
- Pixels when a site names an exact width, such as a 1080 px wide post or a 1920 px banner. Keep the aspect ratio locked so the picture isn’t stretched.
- Percent when you just want it smaller: 50% halves both sides and leaves a quarter of the pixels.
- Long edge when you have a mix of portrait and landscape images and want the bigger side at, say, 1600 or 2048 px. It’s the quickest way to shrink a large photo for email, a chat or a website.
- Centimeters for print. The editor works out the pixels from the DPI you choose (300 by default).
Changing the size doesn’t change the format: a JPG stays a JPG unless you pick something else on the Convert tab.
Resize many images at once
Drop or choose up to 50 images together and the editor switches to a list. One set of settings applies to all of them:
- Long edge in px for a folder of mixed portrait and landscape photos, or Width when a site names one. An image that is already smaller keeps its size: nothing is enlarged.
- Percent, to scale every image by the same amount.
- A platform preset, with Fit, add margins or Fill, crop the edges, so every image comes out at that platform’s size. Any crop is taken from the middle of each image.
DPI, format and a file size under Compress to at most can be set for the whole batch too. Press Apply to all; the images are processed one after another in your browser, and each shows its new pixel size and file size. Download them one by one, or press Download all as ZIP: file names are kept, and duplicates are numbered. Undo history is only for single images, so to fine-tune one photo, open it on its own.
Resize an image without cropping
Platform sizes often have a different shape from your photo. When you pick one under Platform sizes, you decide what happens to the difference:
- Fit, add margins keeps the whole image and fills the rest of the shape with a margin color.
- Fill, crop the edges fills the whole shape and cuts off what sticks out.
To make an image square without cropping anything, or 4:5, 3:4, 16:9 or 9:16, open the Crop tab and use Make it square without cropping. Margins can be white, light gray, black, light blue, beige or any color from the picker. That’s the usual way to get a wide product photo onto a square marketplace tile or an Instagram post without losing its sides. More on that on Crop Image.
Pixels, file size and DPI for printing
Three numbers get mixed up when people resize images:
- Pixel size (for example 2000 × 2000) is how much detail the image holds. This is what resizing changes.
- File size (for example 850 KB) is how much space it takes. Fewer pixels usually means a smaller file, but the format and quality matter more: a PNG photo can stay several MB. If a site has a limit in KB or MB, use Compress Image. The platform presets here do both: the Etsy preset resizes to 2000 × 2000 and keeps the file under Etsy’s 1 MB.
- DPI is a note in the file that tells a printer how many pixels to put in each inch. Changing it doesn’t add or remove pixels. Print size is pixels divided by DPI: 1800 × 1200 px at 300 DPI prints at 6 × 4 inches, and 2400 px at 300 DPI is 8 inches wide.
To resize an image for printing, choose the DPI under DPI for printing first, switch the unit to cm and type the print size. The editor writes the DPI into JPG and PNG files.
Does resizing lose quality?
Making an image smaller throws pixels away, so fine detail gets less sharp, but at screen sizes it usually looks the same. The editor uses a high-quality Lanczos-type filter, which keeps edges crisp.
Two things do cost quality. Saving as JPG or WebP is lossy: at the default 85% the difference is usually hard to see, and you can raise it under Compress. And making an image bigger can’t add detail that was never there; the editor shows a warning when you do it. If you change your mind, click an earlier step under History: every step is redrawn from the original, so trying sizes back and forth doesn’t wear the image down.
Resizing images you made on zzo.ai
Images from the generators here come back as PNG, often at 2K or more: a Nano Banana 2.1 image can be 2752 × 1536 px and several MB, and a GPT Image 2.5 image 1024 × 1024. Under any image result, Resize or compress (free) opens it straight in this editor. The image is loaded from your own zzo.ai history, and nothing is sent back.
To make new images, the AI image generator and the AI product photo generator are pay per generation, with no subscription. To take the background out of a photo, use Remove Background; to change the format, Convert Image.
When a result goes wrong
The usual problems, why they happen and what to change.
The image looks blurry after resizing
Why: It was made bigger than the original, or a small image is being shown large. Enlarging spreads the same pixels over more space; it can’t add detail.
Fix: Start from the largest original you have and only make it smaller. For a screen, a long edge that matches where it’s shown (for example 1920 or 1080 px) is enough.
The file is still too big to upload
Why: Pixel size and file size are different things. A PNG photo stays large even at fewer pixels, because PNG keeps every pixel exactly.
Fix: Open the Compress tab and choose a size under Compress to at most. Switch a PNG photo to JPG or WebP; for a PNG graphic, pick 256 under Colors.
Part of the picture was cut off
Why: A platform size was applied with Fill, crop the edges, which cuts the image to the platform’s shape.
Fix: Pick Fit, add margins instead, or click an earlier step under History to go back.
Some images in a batch kept their size
Why: Long edge and Width only make images smaller. An image that is already under the size you set is left as it is, so nothing gets enlarged and blurry.
Fix: That’s usually what you want. To give every image the same pixel size, use a platform preset with Fit, add margins or Fill, crop the edges; smaller images are then enlarged, which adds no detail.
Questions
Updated 2026-11-03
Is this image resizer free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no ads and no daily limit, because nothing is counted: the resizing runs on your own device.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The image is opened, resized and saved in your browser and never leaves your device. To check, open the developer tools, watch the Network tab while you resize, and you’ll see no upload request.
How do I resize an image without losing quality?
Make it smaller, not bigger, and keep the quality around 80–90% (85% by default, under Compress). A smaller image has fewer pixels but usually looks the same on screen. Saving as JPG or WebP is lossy, so for logos, screenshots or anything you will edit again, save as PNG, which keeps every pixel.
How do I resize an image without cropping it?
Choose a size under Platform sizes and pick Fit, add margins: the whole image fits inside the new shape, and margins fill the rest. To make it square, 4:5 or 16:9 with a margin color you choose, use Make it square without cropping on the Crop tab.
How do I resize an image to an exact size like 1920 × 1080?
If your image already has the same shape, type 1920 as the Width with the aspect ratio locked. If it doesn’t, crop it to 16:9 on the Crop tab first, then type the width. Unlocking the ratio and typing both numbers stretches the picture.
How do I resize an image to 100 KB or 1 MB?
Use the Compress tab: under Compress to at most, click 100 KB, 1 MB or another size, or type your own. Resizing sets the pixel size; the compressor sets the file size and makes the pixels smaller too if it has to. The Compress Image page has more on it.
Can I resize by percentage or by the longest side?
Yes. Switch the unit to % and type, say, 50 to halve both sides. Or click a Long edge (px) size: the longer side gets that size and the other follows the aspect ratio.
What size should an Instagram post be?
Instagram’s own help page says photos 320 to 1080 px wide keep their size, wider ones are scaled down to 1080 px, and ratios between 1.91:1 and 3:4 are shown without cropping. Type a Width of 1080 px, and crop to 1:1 or 4:5 first if you want a square or portrait post. The table on this page links the source.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
YouTube’s help page lists 3840 × 2160 (16:9), at least 640 px wide, up to 2 MB when you upload from a phone and 50 MB from a computer. The YouTube preset under Platform sizes resizes to 3840 × 2160 and keeps the file under 2 MB.
What size should Etsy, Amazon or eBay photos be?
Etsy recommends at least 2000 px (the first photo at least 635 px), and files over 1 MB may not finish uploading. Amazon asks for 500 to 10,000 px on the longest side; over 1,000 px on each side allows zoom. eBay asks for at least 500 × 500 px. The table above has each one with its source and check date, and the Etsy and eBay presets resize and keep the file under the limit.
Can I make an image bigger?
Yes, in pixels: type a larger width or percent. The editor warns you that enlarging adds no detail, and the image may look soft. There is no AI upscaling here.
How do I change the DPI of an image to 300?
Choose 300 under DPI for printing and download a JPG or PNG. DPI changes no pixels; it only tells print software how large to print. To print 6 × 4 inches at 300 DPI, the image needs 1800 × 1200 px.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac?
Yes, in the browser, with nothing to install. iPhone and iPad (Safari) can edit images up to about 16.7 megapixels, other devices up to 50 megapixels; bigger images are opened smaller, and the editor tells you. iPhone HEIC photos open in every browser, Chrome and Edge on Windows included, and are saved as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Can I resize several images at once?
Yes, up to 50. Drop or choose them together, pick a Long edge, a Width, a percent or a platform preset, and press Apply to all. Each image keeps its own shape unless the preset crops or pads it. Download them one by one, or all as one ZIP.
How do I bulk resize photos for Etsy, eBay or a website?
Open all of them at once and choose the platform under Platform sizes, with Fit, add margins to keep each whole photo or Fill, crop the edges to fill the shape from the middle. Presets with a file limit, such as Etsy’s 1 MB, also keep each file under it. For a website, a Long edge of 1600 or 1920 px is a common choice.
What’s the difference between resizing and cropping?
Resizing scales the whole picture to more or fewer pixels and keeps everything in it. Cropping cuts away the edges and keeps the pixels inside the box as they are. To do both, crop first, then resize.
